Bighorn National Recreation Area

Last week I interviewed at an accounting firm in Casper, Wyoming. On my drive back up I took the indirect route and traveled through Lovell, WY and the Bighorn National Recreation Area.

It was stunning! Coming over the pass I hit my first snow of the year and was able to take some pictures of what I saw.


For this first picture, I focused on the bush in front of the deer. I think it created a sense of stillness, especially in black and white.

I do not know what makes the ground black (maybe coal?), but I really like this picture.

The Hunt for Green October

I have been attempting to take Northern Light pictures for a couple of weeks now. I have found myself near Molt, MT three times now. The first time I was able to see some green int the sky, but not to the extent that I thought I would. It was my first time seeing aurora so I was excited nonetheless.

The next two time I have been unsuccessful spotting any lights, but I am not giving up. I have been planning out the perfect shooting criteria and am prepared to hop in the truck and go!

Northern Lights

I have lived in Montana for over 4 years now, but have never seen the northern lights. After hearing that they would be visible outside of town, I took off toward Molt when I got off ow work on Tuesday.

Now, this is my first time attempting to see the lights, much less photograph them. I did not have a tripod so I used the roof rack and tailgate of my truck in order to hold my camera still as I took long exposures.

The sky was a little cloudy so I did not see very pronounced coloring, but was able to see a beautiful green glow above the horizon. I'm not proud of these pictures, as with my limited experience with nighttime photography I was unable to capture what I saw. I am excited that I got some green coloring to my photos, even if it looks terrible.

This first picture is of where I was at, on the backroads between the farms outside of Molt, MT.

Oops, there it went

Today is Thursday and as it turns out I forgot to post last Thursday. Oops.

In order to, hopefully, make up for my mistake I went searching for some information about the significance of blogging as a photographer. I stumbled upon this post on a website called aPhotoEditor. It talks about the benefits of blogging as a photographer, as well as some types of blogs, and reinforces the reader to really target the blog toward the audience they want to reach.

Toward the end of the post it lists a couple of good examples of blogs where I found Matt and Agnes Hage’s Blog. They are a couple of outdoor adventure photographers who do shoots for outdoor brands. Combing through their pictures, here are a few I really enjoy.
